Some of you reading this are aware that Allan and I are currently in France. We're in Paris with my kids for their fall break.
In the mornings we take our time getting ready. My daughter turns on the TV; there's cable in the apartment, so she flips around the various video channels and I roll my eyes and think of my mother, who was quite vocal about my watching MTV back in the day.
And if you know me, you know I don't listen to Top 40 or commercial radio. Ever. At home it's streaming radio; in the car it's Sirius satellite radio. So I'm out of the loop of what's popular as far as music goes.
Thank goodness for the video channels. Between them, it's possible to hear the same song three times in the course of however long it takes us to all get ready. I've compiled a list of the catchiest tunes out there. One of them I already knew and liked, and I'll leave you to figure out which one that is. In no particular order, here's what's going through my head, all day every day. The links are to the videos of these songs on YouTube, and they will open in a new window — and that's my disclaimer: click at your own risk. Don't blame me if you get any of these stuck in your head.

Erik Prytz and Coldplay ??
Enjoy your stay in France

The whole Coldplay album is great. If you like Coldplay. And even if you don't like Coldplay, it's worth checking out, because it's the least Coldplay-ish of all their discs.
But, I, too, am pretty much out of the music loop these days when it comes to what the "kids" are listening to. Makes me feel old. My nephew rattles off the CDs he wants to buy and I'm like, "Who?"
We do become our parents.

I've only heard two of those songs. I'm so out of touch.

Au coeur de la rue is catchy and the lyrics are very good. I only listen to the radio when I'm on my run.

Here, try some of this heroin, but don't blame me if you become addicted. How come no Beethoven?

i hear ya, ali. that's pretty funny. i heard a top 40 couple of songs recently in the car as NPR was talking some nonsense i couldn't stand one day this week (i usually listen to the local NPR station when driving) and i heard a couple i really liked! one was by someone named Duffy or Fluffy or something. and i can't remember what the other is. anyway, enjoy FRONSS!

Checking these out reminded me how much I hate music videos. You won't ever catch me watching MTV. I listen practically exclusively to indie/alternative rock music that is really current. Not top 40 stuff - much better, of course (I am no great fan of Coldplay either, but I find Chris Martin rather hot.)
Have a fun-filled time with your kids in France!

I don't know any of them. It's awful getting old. Then again, your radio preferences sound infinitely more appealing than MTV!
Have a great time in France :)

LOL rebecca. Her name is Duffy and she is really good.
I know three out of the list.

Coldplay, Rihanna - yup.
Having kids means never really having to be out of touch with what's cooking musically.
Ne-Yo. But that might be the African in me coming out.....
Nice to drop in here, Ali. Good to see you still happy. Hi to Allan.
