My favorite expression these past few months has been "sofa king." Anyway, I went to the grocery store to get a few things—shrimp, red bell pepper, garlic, and fresh ginger—for dinner, and on my way home I heard a song on First Wave that made me say "I have GOT to keep a running list of songs to play at our wedding reception." (No, there's no date set yet.)
I told this to Allan when I got home, and he said "You should blog about it."
Then his eyes got all twinkly, and he added "You know, to get some tongues wagging."
I'm pretty picky about music. There will be no "love ballads" played at our wedding. We will not dance to the "I like big butts" song (I don't even know the name of that song! But I was out of the country during the 90s, so I'm excused). I'm not sure we can learn to dance to "Thriller" in time. (I'm not opposed to having that played at the reception, though.)
Anyway, if you have a cool song you want to share in the comments, I'll take note.
No promises that I'll let it be played at the reception, however.
Oh, and the song I heard on the radio? It's below the fold. Don't you judge me. I came of age in the 1980s.

I disagree!! I think you CAN and SHOULD learn the THRILLER dance for the reception. Matter of fact, I am so sure that you can do it, I will make you a copy of the CD "13 going on 30", which has Jennifer Garner doing the whole dance. By the way...I will fly from Texas to watch and participate in that experience.

WHOOPS! I mean DVD!

My best friends danced to Keb 'Mo's "You Don't Have to Shave Yo' Legs". It was perfect.

White Wedding?

My new favorite song is "Boum!" by Charles Trenet. I don't know if it's appropriate for a wedding or not, but it is for a marriage. :)

KING! Awesome!
You must play Hungry Like the Wolf. Because, DUH!
Also, people seemed to like the final song at our reception. "Goodbye to You" by Scandal. Even my mom got up for that one. Sure, she was doing the white man's overbite, but she was shakin' her tail feather.

I was recently at a great wedding where the Bride and Groom danced to "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers.
It was awesome.

"I have GOT to keep a running list of songs to play at our wedding reception."
So I'm not the only one that thinks that then?!

No "Baby Got Back"?!?!?!? If we were going to have music at our wedding (which we're not at all), David and I would have that on the "Must Play" list. ;-) Seriously, my kids luuuurve it.
How about something by "The Kyerr"? ;-)

i think the music one chooses for their wedding is important and oftentimes, when two people are music lovers, it's a reflection of their journey together.
wow, that was a little too deep for before 8am.
anyhow, i'm sappy and i like songs probably no one has heard of!

Chicken Dance? Bee Gees? I was so stressed over music for our wedding. I mean SO STRESSED! And you know what? I can't remember it now! :-)
I remember the first dance song, Little Big Town's Bring It On Home. I remember Old Crow Medicine Show's song Wagon Wheel. Other than that, I just remember watching my Teenager dance with my mom. I remember seeing KB's daughter dance with her Grandpa. I remember snapshots, but not the music.
Then again, maybe I just blocked it because the music was such a fiasco.

Personally, I love 80s music, especially the alternative stuff like Duran Duran and Thompson Twins.

I love the 80s! How 'bout an entire New Wave reception? I'll send you my Totally 80s compilation if you want!
Boy, this makes me wish I had actually held a reception (or a wedding for that matter). The PDA isn't so great, but picking the music would be AWESOME!

We are having a hell of a time with our wedding playlist. It gets considerably more complicated when my stepmom calls me all excited to tell me things like how she and my dad just got back from dance class and learned a dance to the Beach Boys' "Kokomo," so we have to play that, okay? But it's still pretty fun.

REHAB...AMY WINEHOUSE

Still the One by Orleans ;)
LOL at the Amy Winehouse suggestion!

Tongues wagging? OK, BARRY WHITE! Run it past Alan. Lots to choose from. We can even send you a CD to sample. Cat did the music for our friends wedding down in the Bay Area (funky classics that turned tech). She had a blast doing it.

That's No Lady, That's My Wife
Lyle Lovitt
(and my friends actually used it as their 'dance' song)

The song is so overdramatic.
Here is a some songs. Of the 1980's, of course
U2-Drowning Man
Art of Noise - Moments in Love
Frankie Goes to Hollywood - The Power of Love

Perhaps you should just stream satellite radio at the reception, with First Wave being the primary station of choice?
After having a total flashback watching that King video and listening to the song, I'm thinking that much of my music collection could be put to good use on this station (and maybe even your wedding reception).
My sister had a list of songs that the DJ was NOT allowed to play: The Chicken Dance; The Macarena; The Electric Slide. I'm sure there were others as well. I sometimes feel that's almost as important as the playlist of tunes you want a DJ to play.
