Noodles. I want noodles.
And not just any noodles. I want glass noodles. Cellophane noodles. Korean noodles.
So Allan and I went to the local Korean joint, but instead of ordering chap che, we got the special. And I cannot for the life of me remember its name. It's not on the menu, see. Anyway, what sold me was the description: clear noodles, veg, seafood, beef, and pork. I imagined an embellished chap che.
When I ordered the special, I was told it was big, $23, and we could share. So we did. And the noodles were huge. Wide. Flat. Quivering. They were also hiding underneath a beautiful arrangement of julienned vegetables, beef, egg, squid, shrimp, crab meat. Our server showed us how to pour on the mustard sauce and mix everything together before starting to eat.
It was delicious. But it wasn't cellophane noodles. I might have to go back for some chap che this weekend.

Noodles are delish--especially with all those veggies. I'm not a big meat fan because I'm too lazy to chew my food that many times! By the way, I have an observer, French teacher in training from one of our local universities. She's 24, and spend her senior year of high school as an exchange student near Liege, Belgium. (no liegeois accent though, thank god)She took a competency test to qualify, since she had the language background. Her French is beautiful. However, in front of students, she said SHIT.(in English yet--not even merde) And then I was explaining the expression "Il me manque" to a 2nd year student, when she turned to me and said, gulp, "That's a reflexive verb, right?" I busily tried to think of something tactful to say with my face a study of shock...All I could think of was, well, no, the expression sort of means He is lacking to me, hoping that she got the connection. Oh, dear. *wringing hands* You are the only one who can appreciate this story and my grammatical agony.

That sounds delicious! I like rod na (I think this is how it's spelled) from our local Thai restaurant. Wide noodles, beef, pepper, and some veggies all put together in this clear broth. That is wonderful stuff!

This is one of those really Earth shattering problems that has an easy solution. And, you have backups! You can keep eating other wonderful dishes and 'need' to keep going back to scratch that chap che itch. I could keep this one going for a really long time.

Asian food is my favorite type of cuisine and I know it's because of the noodles? Have you ever had Vietnamese summer rolls? with the mint, pork, cellophane noodles, and shrimp? I could die!

I've never had Korean food. I'm barely aware of Thai food, so Korean sounds very exotic to me. But I like noodles of all kinds, so I can understand your desire for a specific type. Hope you get the "right" ones soon.

When I have a craving, it doesn't go away until I get what I'm craving. Substitutes or things that are close don't make it go away. Go figure.

Oh, it's so awful when you know what you want to eat but can't have it. I hate to tell my friends up north that I try to co-ordinate visits with them and trips to the ethnic groceries and restaurants we have none of in my whitebread town. . .

Well - that's it. We'll be heading to our favorite restaurant tonight, Ming's, and try to order something similar to what you just described. Now I want noodles.
Cas
Thanks for the inspiration!
