Allan says there's no such thing as too much chocolate.
I say there is. And I love chocolate, as long is it as dark and high-quality.
Our proverbial bone of contention is Ben & Jerry's Lighten Up Chocolate Fudge Brownie frozen "yogurt."
The first time I tasted it, it overwhelmed me. Allan is eating it now, and offered me some. I declined at first, citing the "too much chocolate" argument. And I said I was going to blog about it. However, I just ate a spoonful of the Ben & Jerry's, and it didn't have the same effect.
So maybe my theory is bunk. But I will maintain that sometimes there's just too much chocolate.

I am sure that Denise is going to disagree with me, but I have to say that the Sarris Candies "Chocoholic Sundae" makes me kind of sick by the time I get half-way through it ...
The Chocoholic - $5.95
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the real chocolate lover. One scoop of each: chocolate, chocolate chip and double chocolate smothered with hot fudge and fresh roasted nuts under a blanket of whipped cream, chocolate jimmies and a maraschino cherry.

Oh yes. There is definitely such a thing as too much chocolate. I'm a HUGE chocoholic, but even I have my limits.

I'm with Allan!! No such thing...unless.... it might be the Courtney Chocolate Pie. Now that is some chocolate!!
But, I'll eat a SMALL piece every time.

Let's see, I don't really care for chocolate so I guess I would have to say neither of you is really right...
Posted by: Betty C. | September 19, 2007 at 08:30
Unlike Seuss or David, I don't think my chocoholism has a limit. I always order the aforementioned Sarris sundae, finish it, then finish the sundaes of my children after they're full.
But only if they're chocolate. Otherwise, why bother? ;-) And, though I'll eat chocolate in any incarnation imaginable, like Alison I love dark the best. Great. Now I'm craving a Dove dark bar and I'm at work. Guess I'll have to settle for the Milky Way from the machine.

Yup, I'd say there's such a thing as too much chocolate. At some point, I think your tastebuds stop registering it and then you're just snarfing down calories. Like the sundae David mentioned, or a wedge of flourless chocolate cake. The first couple bites are blissful and then you realize you've had enough, but it's chocolate! You can't just *leave* chocolate, so you push to finish it, but the bliss is gone.

could be. but there's never enough pizza.
Posted by: rebecca | September 19, 2007 at 09:12
You're full of it. There is never too much chocolate.
Posted by: LittleMike | September 19, 2007 at 09:26
I don't really understand the phrase "too much chocolate" so I guess that means I agree with Allan. :-)

When I saw the title of this post in my Google Reader, I said "Ali's right!" without even reading what you are right about or who the other party was. Because I have such faith in you, of course.
But then I read the chocolate debate, and yeah...Allan is right. Unless you ask my hips. They'll tell you there is such thing as too much chocolate.
The debate continues...

It pains me to say this, but you *can* have too much chocolate. But I find that a scoop of coffee ice cream in the same bowl with the aforementioned Ben & Jerry's Giant Bomb of Chocolate alleviates the chocolate overload quite nicely.
Of course, now you're eating twice as much ice cream...

I'm with Allan here. I'll eat it as long as it remains. Of course I am no longer slim and svelte like a gazelle, but it has been worth it.

i have never uttered such words. blasphemy!
:)
this coming from a sugar-free kind of girl nowadays. but still, i can dream.

Its fun to have a point and then keep trying to prove yourself right by eating too much chocolate, isn't it?
i love chocolate... and I am in the camp with the man on this one. never too much...
whats that quote by oscar wilde?
The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it... I can resist everything but temptation.

I think there can be too much, I've been buying it for the sake of it recently and not enjoying it that much - what's wrong with me?
Posted by: Katherine | September 19, 2007 at 12:34
um? huh? what? i do not understand the string of words you have put together... "too much chocolate". i believe that is impossible to say in the english language, it is grammatically incorrect, and illogical. ;)

Hey, in a neat coincidence, someone just gave me a piece of Cocoa Via Dark at lunch. Absolutely fantastic (from the makers of Dove, of course), and allegedly good for you. I went to their site, www.cocoavia.com, and found the nearest store that sells it.
Am stopping to buy a case on the way home. ;-)

I'm not sure they can be too much chocolate when it's about chocolate bars. As long as it's dark chocolate. But if it isn't, it's too much butter/sugar, not too much chocolate. So it doesn't matter.
But as far as chocolate ice cream is concerned, I'm with you. There is such a thing as too much chocolate. In my case, it happens after the second mouthful of chocolate ice cream. Sadly.
Posted by: ChloƩ | September 19, 2007 at 13:21
I agree with you, but I'm also a purist. I believe chocolate should be eaten as chocolate, cheese cake should only come in one flavor, and pie should have no ice cream.
I'm just odd.

Is there such a thing as too much sex?
Are there too many flowers in the world?
Is there such a thing as too many shoes or cloths in a woman's closet?
That's all I think I have to say.

I could take it or leave it; I'm not a big chocolate fan. I guess I'm the minority!
Posted by: Audra | September 19, 2007 at 21:20
I have to disagree. There can never be too much chocolate.
Posted by: winter | September 19, 2007 at 22:51
There are times that nothing will satisfy me except a bite or two of chocolate. It is a satisfying taste, and one that makes life bearable. However, I enjoy it in moderation since I hate feeling full.
Posted by: Margaret | September 19, 2007 at 23:12
Like Beanie, it PAINS me to say there can be too much chocolate, but that is literal for me. Chocolate causes aphthous ulcers in my mouth which, if you don't know what they are, you don't want to. Sometimes I just choose to endure the pain, but I definitely pay a price.

Courtney Chocolate Pie?
Posted by: Susan | September 20, 2007 at 17:07
Too much chocolate gives me heart palpitations.
It is so worth it.
Posted by: musing | September 20, 2007 at 18:32
Sometimes I crave chocolate. Most of the time I don't. But when I have it in front of me, I don't stop until it's gone. After that, I am definitely aware that I've had too much chocolate. Gotta get back into that portion control stuff!
