Allan and I decided to Get The Hell Out Of Dodge™ last week. We came to visit our friends BlueHeronDruid and hobbitt in the Pacific Northwest. It was quite a spontaneous trip, and we had no agenda.
Today Allan and I went to Seattle to meet up with a couple of friends from Radio Paradise. I also have a couple of blog friends from Seattle: Margaret and Sizz, and I don't think Karan is too far away either.
I really thought about contacting my blog buddies while we were in the area. But then I thought about why we were here. And I didn't want any stress in planning*. Today was easy because Tommy isn't working at the moment, and Saundrah just met us for lunch at a tasty place she suggested. Tommy took us around the city, as much as you can do in a few short hours.
We visited Pike Place Market, Post Alley, the Sculpture Park, and Kerry Park. We also got to walk through a bit of Capitol Hill.
Today was a great day. And it's been a great week. This is a gorgeous area of the country. We'll be back. And you can see some photos of our trip here and here, although as I write this, most of the Seattle photos have not been uploaded to Flickr.
*Forgive me, blog friends.

Sounds like you're having a nice trip! Enjoy it for me as I toil. :)

What, you didn't find any slugs to immortalize? Sheesh. When hubby and I went out to Portland many years ago, we could have photographed a slug a day! They sure know how to grow those babies out in the PN.
It's really, really pretty out there, and the lifestyle is much more relaxed than in the Northeast. I don't think I could live there, but it was a great place to visit. As it happens, I went out there to meet friends from the net - but this was back when the net was Fido. I was active on the Cooking Echo, and every year someone organized a Cooking Echo Picnic, and this one happened to be in Portland (We also went to Elkton, MD, and Colts Neck, NJ). It was great to put faces to the names.
You're fortunate to be able to do this - travel to meet friends in person. Even if other people out there can't pack up and travel far to do it, I'd almost always recommend it. Don't be afraid to organize something, either, if you have a bunch of people you'd like to get together. Yay!!

Cap Hill is my 'hood so now you can picture where I live. :) Next time we'll meet up- no worries! And now I have to go check out that sushi joint. I'm always looking for a new place to eat my favorite food.

Well, OK, I forgive you this time. Seriously, I know all about planning, and meeting up not being relaxing. We're doing that for this weekend; it hasn't been fun to try to make decisions. Ashley will be living very near to Capitol Hill in a few weeks. That's where her apartment is. I wish the weather had been nicer for your visit, but it is still beautiful here. Of course, I am a bit prejudiced.

Did they throw the fish at you (or near you) when you were at Pike's Place? I always make them throw the fish at me when I'm in Seattle. ; )

I had my suspicions when I saw that picture of mussels....but next time, Margaret and I will hold you to a quick visit!
BTW...don't get a fish thrown at you...you get fishy smelling and gunky from the effort.

OH....get you some dungess crab before you return. You will not be sorry!!

Gee, I thought that was you guys riding around the other day...Should have been in touch. You missed our annual barge on the lake balloon fight. Oh well...maybe next time. Hope you enjoyed our little neck of the woods. I hear it's a bit warm back at your house today. It's gonna be mid 70's here in the great NW.

Oooo. What a lovely, yummy trip to one of my favorite, favorite places. Druid Labs is a place of healing, and Seattle is just plain fun. And I really jealous you got to have a day with Tommy and Saundrah.
Glad you got away. Hope it was as much fun as it looked to be. And I hope Aalln's fingers are OK!

Hey! We were pretty close to each other, although I had already left for Colorado when you were in Seattle. I think the weather was nice when you were there, which wasn't the case most of the summer...glad you liked the PNW! Whenever I fly home, I think "this IS God's country." For some reason that particular phrase always comes to mind...
