Southern Baptist seminary to offer academic program in homemaking
Coursework will include seven hours of nutrition and meal preparation, seven hours of textile design and "clothing construction," three hours of general homemaking, three hours on "the value of a child," and three hours on the "biblical model for the home and family."
Seminary officials say the main focus of the courses is on hospitality in the home - teaching women interior design as well as how to sew and cook. Women also study children's spiritual, physical and emotional development.
I have no words.
*Or, The Subjugation of Women

And it was "breaking news"??? OMG!

That seems like something I would write in satire. Not something that actually exists. So sad.

I feel an urgent need to puke.
Or to write an indignant letter to these people.
Or maybe both at once?

Oy. Are you sure that this wasn't a long delayed radio message that was beamed into space and bounced off of some long dead star?

Please tell me that these classes are co-ed, that men are supposed to know these things, too. I want a man that can sew me a dress!! :)

Nope, it's open only to women, along with a select number of other courses which I had no desire to track down. What amazes me is that they also offer real classes for women, especially classes on ministry, since it was the southern baptists who recently decided that Timothy's exhortation to women to STFU was words to live by.

Hmm. Does one get a degree upon completion of this coursework? The curriculum seems just a tad antiquated to me. But then again, what do I know? My house is a generally a mess and I can't sew worth anything.

Hope it doesn't kick me off as obscene... WTF? Is this someplace near you? Oh, Kentucky!
I actually went to our county fair last night... another little trip back in time.

I wonder what they'd do if a man showed up?

Well, actually, the textile design and clothing construction interests me, but only because I really love sewing. I WISH I could have taken a textile design course :)
But I don't think that's quite what they had in mind ...
