Yes, I'm in Chicago. This is possibly my favorite city in North America, but not tonight, because I am in a hotel, alone, when technically I could still be in Lexington. I missed my flight to Paris (Allan has chronicled this).
Yes, I am singing Sufjan Stevens in my head, to try and drown out the sounds of Whitney Houston coming from the speakers in the hotel lobby.
Yes, I am fully hating Internet Explorer right now. Vive Firefox!
Now let me tell you what I really meant to blog about (besides the fact that I really wish I could be in Lexington right now, really really really).
I had to smile at the young woman next to me on the flight to Chicago. It was just about her first time on an airplane. As we flew into Chicago, we could see the skyline (gorgeous!) and I recognized some buildings and Navy Pier. We had to circle around because of traffic, and all of a sudden she said to me, "Is that a lake?"
[pause on my part]
"Yes, that's Lake Michigan."
"Oh, it looked like the end of the world. Like a big drop-off."
She was a college student, people.
*****
Overheard in the shuttle to the hotel:
[Young woman admiring other couple's baby]
"What's his name?"
"Trip. Well, his name is Dalton the Third, so we call him Trip."
*****
Trip, indeed. That's all for now. Time for me to get some grub.

I miss you.
Tonks does too. He keeps telling me so.
Bon appétit.

Sorry about the flight and the wait. Funny stories, though, lol. I'll be thinking about you on your way over.

Do you think that if Trip was Dalton, Jr. that his nickname would have been Dub? And if he was Dalton IV...he'd be called Quad?

Hooray for Sufjan! I am just in love with the fellah and his music. Especially the title track!

Come on feel the noise, all you girls and boys. You have had a long and frustrating trip, but it has been full of adventures. I like that.
