Let's play a game. You have to guess the significance of this entry's title.
Is it:
a) The number of electoral votes the winning presidential candidate will get?
b) The number of zits I have on my forehead?
c) The number of mp3 files I currently have on my hard drive?
d) The number of pages in the cheesy novel I'm reading right now?
e) None of the above?
Yes! That's right! I spent 20 minutes counting my zits earlier this evening!
Not.
The correct answer is e) None of the above.
What I really did was haul 276 books into my living room. Some of them are not mine, and must be returned. Some are children's books. Some are my college textbooks, some are teaching manuals. Some are comic books, others are weight-loss guides.
All of them are me.
Some are part of my past, and will be given away or sold. (Yes, I know about BookCrossing).
Others are definitely keepers.
It wasn't as hard as I thought to pack them up and put them in the car. It only took about an hour. I also got a couple of photo albums and 9 years' worth of teaching files. When we were done, I helped J. buy a sweet new computer with a 200 gig hard drive.
After he set it up like a big boy, and I showed him one or two programs he could download, I left.
On leaving I asked if I could take some CDs. I don't have too many in the car right now, and I wanted some fresh tunage. He said "Sure." I said "Can I take Tears for Fears?" He laughed and said be my guest. He hates anything 80s, unless it's cheesy French 80s music.
I popped their Greatest Hits CD into my player and hit the road.
After a few minutes, I ran into some construction on the road south. I guess I was driving about 70 km an hour. I'm glad I had to slow down, because it meant I was able to watch the sun setting over the Atlantic.
The clouds diffused the salmon sun.
I sang along to "Pale Shelter."
It was good.
